Report on Wolf Release

Jim reported on the wolf release program currently proposed by the United States Fish

1998 final rule in order to allow wolves to establish territories outside the boundaries

of the Blue Range Wolf Recovery Area (“BRWRA”), and to provide the FWS with the authority to release wolves from the captive breeding population in New Mexico. There is a possibility that changing the amendment would have an adverse effect on all areas of New Mexico south of 1-40. Discussion followed. Joan moved that Yolanda Tenorio prepare copy of the draft letter addressed to the FWS on behalf of the Guadalupe County Commissioners. Individuals and groups cannot have input, only government entities.  Motion seconded by Bill. Motion passed.
