Regular Meeting August 18, 2009

Santa Rosa Middle School

1. Meeting called to order by President Max Tenorio

2. Approval of minutes from 6//2/09 meeting.

3. Treasurer’s Report 827.18 in checking $40.00 cash on hand

4. Newsletter Input: Members were asked to help by submitting an article on a Guadalupe County Rancher or Farmer

5. Report on Pintada Watershed Field Day by Mr. Don Thompson. (a DVD with erosion control practices at the Thompson Cattle Ranch was shared with all present.)

Guest Speaker: Mr. Fred Hinker, Water Engineer from Santa Rosa had an informative talk on water control and soil erosion. He shared his experiences and knowledge. A handout on water erosion was provided for all in attendance

6. Hay prices

Bill Ortiz and Max Tenorio provided a list of hay producers and hay prices for all members.

7. Latest information on contracting 2009 calves. Max Tenorio reported that Mike Wolf was not contracting calves this year. Bob Stubbs from Tucumcari was on hand to share information about buying calves this year. He did not have actual market amounts to share with the members, but producers can contact him.

8. Alice Velasquez, SRHS FFA Advisor, shared information about the FFA program and suggested forming a Jr. GCLPO.
